FOUNDER AND ARTISTIC DIRECTOR
Evelyn Marie Mwadi (she/her) is a Canadian soprano, voice teacher, and the proud Founder and Artistic Director of For the Girls Opera. Inspired by her own experiences as a soprano, Evelyn created the company to provide opportunities for female-identifying artists to gain real stage experience, build confidence, and prepare for the next phase of their careers.
With a diverse performance background spanning opera, oratorio, and musical theatre, Evelyn enjoys bringing to life characters full of heart, humour, and a touch of edge. Selected roles include Rosalinde in Die Fledermaus, Mrs. Nordstrom in A Little Night Music, Madeleine Astor in Titanic, and Suzanne in Un Mari à la Porte. This spring, she is excited to perform Johanna in Sweeney Todd as part of Opera at Western’s 2025-2026 season.
Evelyn is currently pursuing a Master of Music in Voice Performance from Western University, and holds a Bachelor of Music from the University of Alberta, a Performer Certificate from the Franz-Schubert-Institut in Austria, and a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Vocal Pedagogy from Concordia University of Edmonton. In addition to performing and leading For the Girls Opera, Evelyn maintains a busy teaching studio, guiding a growing studio of aspiring vocalists.
